THE LEAGUE: SEASON THREE WEEK ONE - 02/26/2010

Posted by WrestleUTA on 19 Sep 2015

Season Three, Week One
Puerto Vallarta, Mexico
February 26, 2011

The screen fades in to the finals of last season's playoffs, in which highlights are shows of Johnny Triumph's two-falls-to-one victory over Sean to emerge as the League Champion. As the final pinfall is counted, the voice of longtime League ring announcer Amelia Williams can be heard.

Amelia Williams: It is a goal that only two have achieved. To stand on top of the mountain, as the best in The League. Once again, sixteen men and women will face off with the goal of becoming this season's Johnny Triumph...to emerge from the four-month gauntlet as the best in The League.

Fourteen have returned, knowing what to expect of the next four months. Two new members have also joined, rounding the field at sixteen once more. Who will be the standout this season? Who will emerge as the dominant wrestler?

It's time to find out, ladies and gentlemen. This is Season Three...of The League.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON THREE, WEEK ONE
Instead of the usual pyrotechnics and deafening noise, the camera fades in to the beaches of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and a crowd of several thousand vacationers and die-hard League fans grouped loosely around the ring that's been constructed on the beach. Off to the right, a cordoned off area houses the locker rooms as we cut to the announce table at ringside and our three-person commentary team.

Bob Sinclair: Good evening, ladies and gentlemen, and welcome back to The League! Bob Sinclair, here at ringside as always, and for this season I'm joined not only by my long-time broadcast colleague Frankie Garnett, but also the host of Beyond Ringside, Tori Montgomery.

Frankie Garnett: It's about time we started up again, I was getting bored!

Tori Montgomery: Coming from a man with the attention span of a goldfish, I find that believable enough.

Frankie Garnett: Hey!

Bob Sinclair: In any event, for the next sixteen weeks, we will be here to watch as these sixteen men and women look to become League Champion. It's sure to be an interesting ride.

Frankie Garnett: Look, Bob, enough talk already. There are millions of people watching this who want to get the season started!

Bob Sinclair: So be it. Let's go to the voice of The League, Amelia Williams, to get us underway!

Johnny Triumph (0-0, 6%) vs. SGRaaize (0-0, 9%)

The first man in the match emerges from the curtain hiding the backstage area, and the area is nearly drowned out in jeers as he emerges from the entryway, a rain of golden sparks falling behind him as he walks to the ring with a confident look on his face. Instead of taking the steps closest to him, he walks around to the opposite side of the ring, drawing in more jeers as he finally climbs the steps and enters the ring.

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, this is our first match of Season Three, scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds, he is the reigning League Champion...Johnny Triumph!

Bob Sinclair: Triumph won it all last season, and looks to be the first two-time League Champion coming in. He's got a bit of a tough task ahead of him tonight, though.

Frankie Garnett: Bob, you're talking about our champion. Until proven otherwise, he is the man to beat!

Tori Montgomery: I hate to agree with Frankie, but he's right. Triumph is the champ for a reason, and tonight we'll find out whether it was just a fluke.

Emerging from the entryway, he stands at the top of the entranceway, a flag of Portugal held in his left hand. Ignoring the jeers of the fans, he slides into the ring and bounces off the ropes a couple of times to stretch before handing the flag off to a ringside attendant and turning to face his opponent.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Torres Vedras, Portugal, weighing 231 pounds...SGRaaize!

Frankie Garnett: Seriously, do either of you give Raaize a chance at anything other than mediocrity this season?

Tori Montgomery: I think he has as good a chance as anyone in the Delta Division, Frankie.

Bob Sinclair: Well, in any event, the fans are ready for the third season to get started, who are we to deny them any longer? There's the bell, and we are underway!

Tori Montgomery: He's determined to show everyone who doubts him that he is for real this season!

CAGE MATCH: Thor Hammerskald (0-0, 16%) vs. Robbie Maynard (0-0, 9%)

Bob Sinclair: As we get ready for our next match, Frankie, what do you see happening here?

Frankie Garnett: Hammerskald wrecking people into and through the cage, plain and simple.

Tori Montgomery: I disagree. I've heard that Maynard's been shoring up his weaknesses in the offseason; I think he will be more than ready to take care of Thor.

Bob Sinclair: Well, folks, our ring hands have the cage locked in place, so we're ready for our next contest. Amelia?

A Norse battle cry emerges from backstage before he appears to a decent ovation as the big man emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them.

Amelia Williams: The following contest is a steel cage match, in which the only way to win is to escape the cage! Introducing first, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds...Thor Hammerskald!

Frankie Garnett: I'm going on record right now by saying that Thor will double his win total from last season.

Tori Montgomery: And did you wager on that?

Frankie Garnett: Of course I did, another $3,000. That's how certain I am.

Bob Sinclair: I can see the train wreck already, folks.

Thor opponent emerges from backstage, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as one of the League's initial playoff wrestlers emerges from the stage, basking in the spotlight shining above him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds...Robbie Maynard!

Tori Montgomery: Here's a guy I'm looking for great things from this season, Bob.

Bob Sinclair: Maynard is looking to rebound from last season after being in the playoffs in our inaugural season.

Frankie Garnett: See, this is why he needs a guy like me in his corner! I could take him to new heights!

Sebastian Moore (0-0, 15%) vs. The Phoenix (0-0, 15%)

Tori Montgomery: In any event, while we wait for the cage to be dismantled, coming up is a rematch of last season's third-place consolation match. The only difference is that one of the competitors will be having a manager accompany them to the ring.

Bob Sinclair: I, for one, will be interested to see how well this works for him. Especially after the turnaround he had last season; I'm not sure whether he needs this or not.

Frankie Garnett: It just gives him an excuse when he starts to lose again, mark my words!

Bob Sinclair: In any event, we're ready for our next contest. Amelia, take it away!

It is to a bit of silence that he emerges, an arrogant smirk crossing his face as he soaks in the jeers of the crowd. Looking up at the spotlight for a moment, his smirk seems to get even bigger as he walks down the ramp, ignoring the catcalls of the crowd as he ascends the steps, wipes his feet on the apron, and steps through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: This bout I scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Manchester, England, weighing 237 pounds...Sebastian Moore!

Bob Sinclair: Moore was the highest-ranked rookie last season; no doubt that he's looking to repeat that performance this season.

Tori Montgomery: That goes without saying, Bob. That Chonan Lock of his is as potent a finisher as I've seen in The League.

Frankie Garnett: No, the most potent finisher is Phoenix's body odor.

The League's largest member emerges from the back and walks to the ring, a smaller figure walking beside him on his left. As he approaches the steps, he pauses, bowing his head for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and releasing a shout to the skies above. His wife reaches up and gives him a quick peck on the cheek for luck as he ducks between the ropes and finishes his stretching.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, being accompanied to the ring by Te'Snilo Bradenbury, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds...this is The Phoenix!

Bob Sinclair: The top man in the regular season last time out, there's a surprising number of people who think Phoenix could be poised to make a championship run this season.

Frankie Garnett: If it's to the buffet table, then yes, I'm one of those who think that.

Tori Montgomery: It will be interesting to see how Miss Bradenbury factors into the contest, at least from my point of view.

Frankie Garnett: (Radio Edit)!

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of sixteen minutes and forty seconds...The Phoenix!

Bob Sinclair: And the winning ways continue; Phoenix is picking up where he left off last season!

Tori Montgomery: Good. That just made the Beta Division that much more interesting.

Frankie Garnett: And why would you say that?

Super Century (0-0, 15%) vs. Nuclear Templeton (0-0, 15%)

Tori Montgomery: Because after last season, and the way that division is set up, we could see another 8-0 start this season.

Frankie Garnett: You've got to be kidding me!

Bob Sinclair: Tori has a point there, Frankie, but in any event, we're ready for our next match of the evening. We're wasting no time tonight; let's send it to Amelia.

Without warning, all of the lights go off around the beach, casting everything into pitch blackness. A few seconds pass before a spotlight shines on one of the turnbuckles, revealing no one there. This is repeated with all four turnbuckles, each revealing no one there. Finally, one last spotlight shines down onto the middle of the ring, which reveals the caped form of The League's resident superhero, who stands with arms folded and staring intently into the audience as the lights come back up.

Amelia Williams: This contest is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the Halls of Justice, weighing 205 pounds...Super Century!

Frankie Garnett: You mean to tell me that this goof is back?

Tori Montgomery: Look, Frankie, just because you may not care for his gimmick, it doesn't mean that it deserves to be put down. Kids look up to the man!

Frankie Garnett: They need to look up to me!

Bob Sinclair: You're the perfect example of who NOT to look up to, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: ....

As he emerges from the backstage area, the crowd erupts in cheers at the sight of one of the League's more recognizable members. He strides to the ring with a purpose, throwing his arms in the air as he steps between the ropes and looks out of the crowd assembled on the beach.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds...Nuclear Templeton!

Tori Montgomery: Here's a question for you two. Does anyone else see the irony in having Raaize and Templeton in the same division for the second straight season?

Frankie Garnett: If it means we finally get to see ro-sham-LARRRIIIAAAATOOO, then I approve!

Bob Sinclair: I think it's an interesting choice, Tori. Those two know each other well enough, it should make for an interesting dynamic especially if they team up again at Tag Team Turmoil.

Tori Montgomery: Which, to my understanding, they will.

Diamond (0-0, 15%) vs. Maxx Skabb (0-0, 15%)

Frankie Garnett: But in any event, now we come to the part of the night I've been looking forward to!

Bob Sinclair: Tori, you may want to mute him. I think he's about to offend half our listening audience.

Tori Montgomery: Like he doesn't any other week?

Frankie Garnett: ...that was cold, you two.

Bob Sinclair: In any event....Amelia?

The League's lone female member emerges from backstage to a decidedly mixed reaction. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, hands thrown in the air as the soaks in the crowd reaction while her manager stands outside, also applauding her client.

Amelia Williams: This match is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, accompanied to the ring by Jayde, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds...Diamond!

Bob Sinclair: Tori, we saw how Phoenix's new manager tried to assist him earlier. Should we expect the same from Jayde here?

Tori Montgomery: More than likely. And with Diamond being a natural heel, I'd expect to see it more often.

Frankie Garnett: Speaking of natural—

Bob Sinclair: Frankie, I'm cutting you off before our censors do.

Spotlights begin to pan over the audience, as if looking for someone. A dim red light shines on the entryway, revealing a hulking figure making his way to ringside. As he nears the ring itself, the spotlights immediately focus on him. He slides under the bottom rope, his orange jumpsuit a stark contrast to most of the clothing in the audience as he turns to face his opponent.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds...Maxx Skabb!

Tori Montgomery: This is probably the one man I would not want to be alone with in The League, guys. I have to give Diamond props for not running the hell away.

Frankie Garnett: And that is why you're not a wrestler, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: Thank goodness for that!

Bob Sinclair: It should be noted, ladies and gents, that Skabb's main finisher is banned from this match under threat of disqualification. We'll see how that affects him here.

Frankie Garnett: And he didn't even give Jayde a chance to interfere!

Tori Montgomery: Well, I think it's safe to say that losing the Lethal Injection didn't hurt him any....

Tarik Nolan (0-0, 15%) vs. Sean (0-0, 15%)

Frankie Garnett: Yeah, pretty much.

Bob Sinclair: We're still not wasting time here, it's on to the next match of the evening. To the ring we go!

He emerges from backstage, immediately drawing the ire of the crowd as he stands in the entryway, backlit by a clear spotlight. Laughing at the boos hurled in his direction, he takes his time walking to the ring and subsequently entering it for his next match.

Amelia Williams: This bout is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Shreveport, Louisiana, weighing 292 pounds...Tarik Nolan!

Bob Sinclair: Tarik was one of the so-called "Big Three" in the Gamma Division last year, going 10-4 before being bounced early in the playoffs. He's going to be looking to take another from his former division rival here.

Tori Montgomery: After the two matches these two had last season, I cannot wait to see round four between these two.

Frankie Garnett: OK, I'll admit; this one has me interested as well.

Tori Montgomery: Was that so hard?

Frankie Garnett: Yes. Yes it was.

Thanks to a handy bit of dry ice, fog rolls in from the entrance proper as a figure emerges, walking slowly to the ring and mentally preparing for what's ahead of him. He slides in under the bottom rope and walks over to one of the nearby turnbuckles, leaning up against them as Amelia begins to speak.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Charlotte, North Carolina, weighing 230 pounds...Sean!

Bob Sinclair: Sean was the runner-up last season, and was the third-place finisher in season one. Vegas has him as a 1-3 favorite to win it all this season.

Frankie Garnett: And it's fools' money, too. I took Triumph at 2-1 odds, and do not regret it!

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, does everything for you revolve around betting?

Frankie Garnett: Pretty much, yes.

Tori Montgomery: It's a wonder you haven't been arrested yet, then....

Frankie Garnett: I was sitting here and I almost missed it! That's how quick it was!

Scott Stevens (0-0, 14%) vs. El Demonio de Sangre (0-0, 18%)

Frankie Garnett: And now it's time for my favorite wrestler in The League to come out!

Tori Montgomery: But Frankie, Phoenix already wrestled tonight.

Frankie Garnett: I'm not talking about him!

Bob Sinclair: Cool it, you two. I don't want to have to separate you.

Emerging from the back without his customary introduction music, the crowd immediately erupts into a loud chorus of jeers as he walks towards the ring, doing everything in his power to egg them on. Finally getting to the ring, he slides under the bottom rope and mockingly salutes the crowd, loving the reaction he is getting.

Amelia Williams: This bout is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Houston, Texas, weighing 265 pounds..."The Scorpion" Scott Stevens!

Frankie Garnett: I still think this is a travesty that he can't bring his wife to ringside!

Tori Montgomery: Until the Commissioner's Office gets the fee for the managerial license, his hands are tied, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Doesn't mean that it's still not fair!

Bob Sinclair: Frankie, remember that Phoenix had to pay for his wife to come to the ring with him. There is precedent.

Frankie Garnett: Lies!

The anticipation draws cheers from crowd before the lone luchador in The League emerges from backstage. His mask is obscured by the dry ice-induced fog billowing around him, and it is a blood-red spotlight that follows him to the ring as he hops over the top rope and paces back and forth, waiting impatiently for the match to begin.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Tijuana, Mexico, weighing 142 pounds...he is El Demonio de Sangre!

Bob Sinclair: Now here is someone who could use a major turnaround this season.

Tori Montgomery: No kidding, Bob. Demonio's the lowest-ranked returning member; he's got nowhere to go but up!

Frankie Garnett: Or face-first into the mat, whichever occurs first.
