THE LEAGUE: SEASON THREE, WEEK EIGHT

The Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre, a rather small venue holding less than ten thousand screaming fans, welcomes The League with a fervor normally held for the Vancouver Canucks. This week, the prevailing signs seem to favor Johnny Triumph, Diamond, and Ezekial Kerghan as the camera shifts to ringside after the required pyro opening.

Bob Sinclair: Fresh off of Tag Team Turmoil, welcome to the start of the second half of the season! I'm Bob Sinclair, sitting at ringside with Frankie Garnett and Tori Montgomery, and tonight should be quite an interesting night.

Frankie Garnett: No kidding. Tonight Triumph gets the bad taste out of his mouth after the debacle of Tag Team Turmoil, and the fat guy gets dropped back to his realm of mediocrity!

Tori Montgomery: Not to mention that depending on how some of the matches turn out, we could be looking at some real close races heading into the late weeks of the season!

Maxx Skabb (4-3, 11%) vs. SGRaaize (3-4, 16%)
Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" blares throughout the arena as spotlights begin to pan over the audience, as if looking for someone. A dim red light shines on the entryway, revealing a hulking figure making his way to ringside. As the refrain hits, the spotlights immediately focus on him as white strobe lights flash on the entrance stage. He slides under the bottom rope, his orange jumpsuit a stark contrast to most of the clothing in the audience as the song fades into silence.

Amelia Williams: Our opening contest of the night is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds...Maxx Skabb!

Bob Sinclair: Skabb comes in a match behind Sean and Maynard for the Gamma Division lead, and a win would make things difficult for those two gentlemen.

Frankie Garnett: Gentlemen? Bob, this is The League. There's nothing gentle here!

Tori Montgomery: Hate to say it, but Frankie's right there.

A Portugesa hits the speakers to a rousing chorus of jeers as the Tron displays the national flag of Portugal. Emerging from the entryway, he turns to salute his homeland's flag before calmly walking to the ring, ignoring the fans as he slides into the ring and bounces off the ropes a couple of times to stretch.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Torres Vedras, Portugal, weighing 231 pounds...SGRaaize!

Tori Montgomery: This match is really a "make or break" match for Raaize. A win keeps him in the playoff race for now, while a loss would cripple his chances.

Frankie Garnett: Or in other words, it would be no surprise given his track record over the last two seasons.

Bob Sinclair: There have been questions about Raaize's will to win; a victory here will no doubt silence a few of the naysayers.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of five minutes and twenty seconds...SGRaaize!

Tori Montgomery: Color me surprised, fellas. I didn't expect Raaize to come out firing this week, and he caught Skabb off-guard.

Frankie Garnett: I'm a bit shocked as well. Did Skabb not take his crazy pills tonight or something?

Bob Sinclair: Uh, Frankie, I think you might not understand the concept of your so-called "crazy Pills."

Frankie Garnett: Sure I do! Maxx takes them, he becomes a monster in the ring!

Tori Montgomery: Oy, vey....

Robbie Maynard (5-2, 14%) vs. Sebastian Moore (1-6, 16%)
The opening riffs of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" hits the speakers, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as one of the League's initial playoff wrestlers emerges from the stage, bathed in a blue light shining beneath him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: This bout is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds...Robbie Maynard!

Bob Sinclair: Maynard comes in tied with Sean for the Gamma Division lead, but Sean holds the all-important tie-breaker.

Tori Montgomery: For Maynard, it means that quite simply, he needs to have a better record than Sean if he wants to win the division. A tie is unacceptable.

Frankie Garnett: Gee, Tori, can you explain the obvious some more? I don't think we got the hang of it yet.

It is to Muse's "Assassin" that he emerges, an arrogant smirk crossing his face as he soaks in the jeers of the crowd. Looking up at the spotlight for a moment, his smirk seems to get even bigger as he walks down the ramp, ignoring the catcalls of the crowd as he ascends the steps, wipes his feet on the apron, and steps through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Manchester, England, weighing 237 pounds...Sebastian Moore!

Frankie Garnett: Lemme guess, Tori, you're going to throw out the tired "if anyone needs a win" line here, aren't you?

Tori Montgomery: Actually, no. By my estimations, Moore's season is all but done; the best he can do is play spoiler at this point.

Bob Sinclair: You have his chances that low, Tori?

Tori Montgomery: Right now, I have him winning three out of his next seven matches. 4-10 is not going to get you to the playoffs, no matter what sport you're in.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of four minutes even...Sebastian Moore!

Bob Sinclair: Moore with an upset, as he stuns Maynard in quick fashion!

Tori Montgomery: Moore could surprise people, but I still think his chances at the postseason are nil.

Frankie Garnett: And it wouldn't be the first time that you've been wrong, would it?

Tori Montgomery: Nope. At least I'll cop to that fact.

BETA DIVISION: Ezekial Kerghan (3-4, 20%) vs. Scott Stevens (4-3, 12%)
Escape the Fate's "This War is Ours" hits the arena speakers as The League's newest resident psychopath emerges and heads towards the ring, looking like he's having an argument with voices only he can hear.

Amelia Williams: This is a Beta Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from The Dog Pound, weighing 251 pounds...Ezekial Kerghan!

Frankie Garnett: Now here's a guy who looks nothing if not angry. I fear for Scorpion's safety here.

Tori Montgomery: I fear for my sanity if he comes out wearing the same gear he wore last week.

Bob Sinclair: You and me both, Tori.

The lights in the arena go pitch black, as red lasers and spotlights light up the area. The video screen lights up and flashes across the screen, "Nothing survives my sting!" Over the audio system a snippet of Dave Mustaine from the song "Scorpion" yells, "I am the Scorpion whoah!!!" This causes the crowd to start booing as a mash up of "I Stand Alone" by Godsmack and "Amazing" by Kanye West hits the speakers. Out from the back emerges "The Venomous One" wearing a replica of The League's World Championship around his waist and the man in question walks to the ring, talking trash the whole way while showing off his title belt.

Amelia Williams: (opening), from Houston, Texas, weighing 265 pounds...He is "The League's Real World's Heavyweight Champion" and the current Beta Division leader... "The Scorpion" Scott Stevens!

Frankie Garnett: So, Tori, I have to know. What do you make of the rumors concerning Scorpion and your gal Diamond?

Tori Montgomery: Pure lies, plain and simple. Look at the source, and I use that term loosely.

Bob Sinclair: You mean Jo—

Tori Montgomery: Bob, don't mention his name around me, please? I just got told right before we went on air that my set has finally come out of fumigation, and I'd rather not deal with anything regarding him at the moment. He cost me close to three grand to get my set cleaned!

Frankie Garnett: So that's what they call the morning after pill these days?

There is the sound of a slap.

Frankie Garnett: Ow!! What the hell was that for?!

Tori Montgomery: Man, no one is wasting any time tonight! We're not even a half hour into the show, and we're nearly done half the card!

Frankie Garnett: Are you looking to get us reduced to a one-hour show?

Tori Montgomery: No, just making a statement.

Bob Sinclair: There's still a few matches to go yet; plus the inevitable commercial breaks, Frankie. Relax, we'll fill up the two hour slot easily.

ALPHA DIVISION: Super Century (3-4, 15%) vs. Tarik Nolan (3-4, 18%)
Without warning, all of the lights go off in the arena, casting everything into pitch blackness. A few seconds pass before a spotlight shines on one of the turnbuckles, revealing no one there. This is repeated with all four turnbuckles, each revealing no one there. Finally, one last spotlight shines down onto the middle of the ring, which reveals the caped form of The League's resident superhero, who stands with arms folded and staring intently into the audience.

Amelia Williams: This is an Alpha Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the Halls of Justice, weighing 205 pounds...Super Century!

Frankie Garnett: Alright, serious question. How the hell are we supposed to take this guy seriously without at least some sort of heroic theme music?

Bob Sinclair: Why don't you ask him?

Frankie Garnett: Because the last time I came within fifty feet of him, he tried to Super Punch me, saying that I was evil and should be smited!

Tori Montgomery: Wouldn't blame him if that were actually true....

"Regulate" hits the speakers, immediately drawing the ire of the crowd as a large figure stands in the entryway, backlit by a clear spotlight. Pyro explodes on the stage, causing the light to shut off as the figure finally emerges onto the stage proper. Laughing at the boos hurled in his direction, he takes his time walking to the ring and subsequently entering it for his next match.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Shreveport, Louisiana, weighing 292 pounds...Tarik Nolan!

Bob Sinclair: The winner here will at least keep themselves on the fringe of playoff contention.

Tori Montgomery: The way I see it, guys, whoever loses this match is almost 88% certain to not make the playoffs.

Frankie Garnett: And where did you get that number?

Tori Montgomery: A bit of research, Frankie. Try it sometime!

Frankie Garnett: Not surprised that Century found a way to screw it up, to be honest....

Ian Carlisle (3-4, 15%) vs. El Demonio de Sangre (1-6, 18%)
No music heralds the arrival of one of this season's rookies, as he makes his way to the ring without trying to let any emotions become visible on his face.

Amelia Williams: This match is scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Blackpool, England, weighing 222 pounds...Ian Carlisle!

Bob Sinclair: Carlisle hasn't set The League on fire since arriving, as he enters tonight in last place in the Gamma Division, but still with a chance at making a run.

Tori Montgomery: Given his upcoming schedule, though, I'm not sure I like his chances.

Frankie Garnett: You don't like anyone's chances except for Maynard, Tori, so stop trying to fool us!

The driving metal of Slayer's "Raining Blood" hit the speakers as the lone luchador in The League emerges from backstage. His mask is obscured by the smoke billowing around him, and it is a blood-red spotlight that follows him to the ring as he hops over the top rope and paces back and forth, waiting impatiently for the match to begin.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Tijuana, Mexico, weighing 142 pounds...he is El Demonio de Sangre!

Bob Sinclair: Demonio is only wrestling for pride at this point.

Tori Montgomery: Demonio knew the risks; this time it just did not pay off for him.

BETA DIVISION: Diamond (3-4, 20%) vs. The Phoenix (3-4, 14%)
The familiar tune hits the arena to a mixed reaction as The League's lone female member emerges from backstage. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, hands thrown in the air as the soaks in the crowd reaction while her manager stands outside, also applauding her client.

Amelia Williams: This is a Beta Division match scheduled for one fall! Entering the ring, accompanied by Jayde, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds...Diamond!

Frankie Garnett: And now for Diamond to make her ascent to the top of the Beta Division!

Bob Sinclair: She's got a big task ahead of her, though.

Tori Montgomery: Understatement of the night there, Bob. The League's smallest competitor against the League's largest one.

The opening chords of "The Instinct" hit as the entryway is bathed in a fiery orange light. Twin pillars of flame erupt from the entrance stage, one per side, as The League's largest member walks to the ring, a smaller figure walking beside him on his left. As he approaches the steps, he pauses, bowing his head for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and releasing a shout to the skies above. His wife reaches up and gives him a quick peck on the cheek for luck as he ducks between the ropes and finishes his stretching..

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, being accompanied to the ring by Te'Snilo Bradenbury, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds...this is The Phoenix!

Frankie Garnett: Tori, you're close with this guy, right?

Tori Montgomery: Um...yeah?

Frankie Garnett: Why is his wife using her maiden name?

Tori Montgomery: Because Te'Snilo Bradenbury sounds a bit more exotic, a bit more entertaining than just "Tess Prydor."

Bob Sinclair: She's got a point there, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Better question—why is she trying to throw Phoenix back into the ring? Take the countout victory, Diamond!

Tori Montgomery: If you needed proof that Phoenix is not ready to give it up this season, there it is. With the logjam in the Beta Division now, it's really anybody's division to win.

Frankie Garnett: So if three of them are tied at 4-4, Tori, who's got the advantage?

Frankie Garnett: Good. Anyone but Phoenix....

CAGE MATCH: Sean (5-2, 17%) vs. Nuclear Templeton (5-2, 19%)
Black Sabbath's classic "Iron Man" hits the arena speakers, as strobe lights begin to flash in the entryway. Fog rolls in from the entrance proper as a figure emerges, walking slowly to the ring and mentally preparing for what's ahead of him. He slides in under the bottom rope and walks over to one of the nearby turnbuckles, leaning up against them as the song fades.

Amelia Williams: This is a Steel Cage match, in which the only way to win is to escape the cage with both feet touching the floor! Introducing first, from Charlotte, North Carolina, weighing 230 pounds, he is the current Gamma Division leader...Sean!

Bob Sinclair: Quite a few are calling this the true main event of the evening, as it features a pair of divisional leaders.

Frankie Garnett: It's not the main event because the champ isn't in it. Enough said.

Tori Montgomery: Like that's any indicator...after all, Triumph was in the first match of the season.

Frankie Garnett: Details....

Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" hits the speakers, bringing the crowd to their feet in ovation as one of the League's more recognizable faces emerges from backstage and across the green-tinted stage. As he hits the end of the entrance ramp, he throws his arms into the air, sending a pair of mushroom clouds into the air from the stage as he makes his way to the ring and through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds, he is the Delta Division leader...Nuclear Templeton!

Bob Sinclair: With a win, Templeton keeps his cushion over Raaize, who was victorious earlier tonight.

ALPHA DIVISION: Thor Hammerskald (4-3, 15%) vs. Johnny Triumph (6-1, 23%)
Amon Amarth's "Death in Fire" hits the speakers, to a decent ovation as the League rookie emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them.

Amelia Williams: This is our main event of the evening, an Alpha Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds...Thor Hammerskald!

Frankie Garnett: Before it gets any later in the evening, Tori, you know that "new manager" rumor that a certain someone mentioned?

Tori Montgomery: Oh, you mean "He Who Makes Bald-Faced Lies?"

Frankie Garnett: Uh, anyway...I take it you don't know anything about that?

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, I have sources in the Commissioner's office. If a license were to come across, I'd be notified about it if only for the news for Beyond Ringside. I'd be willing to wager that there is no such license being looked into right now.

Frankie Garnett: I'll take that bet, Tori. The person with the most information about it next week buys dinner for the three of us after the show.

Tori Montgomery: You're on. Don't spend all your money at the casino this week, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: Please. It's time I showed you what six years of journalism school taught me!

Bob Sinclair: Six years? That seems to be two years too long....

A remixed version of "Ecstasy of Gold" hits the speakers, which is nearly drowned out in jeers as he emerges from the entryway, a rain of golden sparks falling behind him as he walks to the ring with a confident look on his face and the League Championship belt draped over his right shoulder. Instead of taking the steps closest to him, he walks around to the opposite side of the ring, drawing in more jeers as he finally climbs the steps and enters the ring.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds, he is the reigning League Champion and the current Alpha Division leader...Johnny Triumph!

Frankie Garnett: Here comes the man destined to repeat as champion, folks!
