THE LEAGUE: SEASON THREE, WEEK FOURTEEN

The pyro seems be overly excessive tonight as the crowd erupts, knowing what is at stake tonight. After a rather lengthy display, we shift to ringside and our three-person announce team.

Bob Sinclair: Hello, everyone, and welcome to perhaps the most dramatic season finale in League history! Bob Sinclair, sitting at ringside along with Frankie Garnett and Tori Montgomery. Tonight decides it all!

Tori Montgomery: Indeed it does, Bob! Seven people fighting for four playoff spots; someone's going to leave disappointed by the time this night is over!

Frankie Garnett: With the tempers flaring in the back, I'm expecting chaos galore tonight! Let's get to it!

Bob Sinclair: You heard the man. Amelia, let's get this night underway!

DELTA DIVISION: El Demonio de Sangre (1-12, 10%) vs. SGRaaize (6-7, 15%)

The driving metal of Slayer's "Raining Blood" hit the speakers as the lone luchador in The League emerges from backstage. His mask is obscured by the smoke billowing around him, and it is a blood-red spotlight that follows him to the ring as he hops over the top rope and paces back and forth, waiting impatiently for the match to begin.

Amelia Williams: Our first contest is a Delta Division match scheduled for one fall! Already in the ring, from Tijuana, Mexico, weighing 142 pounds...he is El Demonio de Sangre!

Bob Sinclair: This will be Demonio's last match with The League; Demonio has expressed his intent to take a hiatus from the sport.

Tori Montgomery: Maybe the time away will do him good; wash away some of the bitter taste this season has left in his mouth.

Frankie Garnett: Likely with tequila, if I have a guess....

A Portugesa hits the speakers to a rousing chorus of jeers as the Tron displays the national flag of Portugal. Emerging from the entryway, he turns to salute his homeland's flag before calmly walking to the ring, ignoring the fans as he slides into the ring and bounces off the ropes a couple of times to stretch.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Torres Vedras, Portugal, weighing 231 pounds...SGRaaize!

Bob Sinclair: Raaize is out of the playoff picture, but is looking to finish with a second consecutive 7-7 record.

Frankie Garnett: Until he can get past the roadblock that is Nuclear Templeton, he's not going anywhere.

Tori Montgomery: I would not be surprised if Raaize is hoping to not be in the same division as Templeton next season.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of twenty-seven minutes and thirty seconds...SGRaaize!

Bob Sinclair: Raaize ends up at 7-7 once again, but you have to wonder just what else he has to do to take that next step and make the playoffs.

Frankie Garnett: I told you already. He needs to get away from Templeton.

Tori Montgomery: You keep thinking that, Frankie.

DELTA DIVISION: Nuclear Templeton (10-3, 17%) vs. Sebastian Moore (4-9, 3%)

Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" hits the speakers, bringing the crowd to their feet in ovation as one of the League's more recognizable faces emerges from backstage and across the green-tinted stage. As he hits the end of the entrance ramp, he throws his arms into the air, sending a pair of mushroom clouds into the air from the stage as he makes his way to the ring and through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: This is a Delta Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds, he is the Alpha Division champion and top seed in the playoffs...Nuclear Templeton!

Bob Sinclair: This is merely a warm-up for Templeton, to get ready for next week and the playoffs.

Tori Montgomery: Nuclear has already said he's returning next season, you know he wants to do as the defending League Champion.

Frankie Garnett: Can you be any more obvious, Tori?

It is to Muse's "Assassin" that he emerges, an arrogant smirk crossing his face as he soaks in the jeers of the crowd. Looking up at the spotlight for a moment, his smirk seems to get even bigger as he walks down the ramp, ignoring the catcalls of the crowd as he ascends the steps, wipes his feet on the apron, and steps through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Manchester, England, weighing 237 pounds...Sebastian Moore!

Tori Montgomery: I've gotten no indication of whether Moore is returning next season, but one can imagine that if he does, he's looking to regain his Season Two form.

Frankie Garnett: I wouldn't be surprised if he hides in shame after this season.

Tori Montgomery: No kidding. He just destroyed Sebastian Moore!

Frankie Garnett: Like that's a feat to be proud of.

ALPHA DIVISION: Super Century (4-9, 14%) vs. Johnny Triumph (6-7, 21%)

Without warning, all of the lights go off in the arena, casting everything into pitch blackness. A few seconds pass before a spotlight shines on one of the turnbuckles, revealing no one there. This is repeated with all four turnbuckles, each revealing no one there. Finally, one last spotlight shines down onto the middle of the ring, which reveals the caped form of The League's resident superhero, who stands with arms folded and staring intently into the audience.

Amelia Williams: This is an Alpha Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the Halls of Justice, weighing 205 pounds...Super Century!

Tori Montgomery: Century, like Moore, has given no indication as to his status for next season.

Frankie Garnett: Which means that he's likely not returning, and we finally get back to some semblance of sanity in The League.

Bob Sinclair: I happen to like the levity Century brings to the ring, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: You would.

A remixed version of "Ecstasy of Gold" hits the speakers, which is nearly drowned out in jeers as he emerges from the entryway, a rain of golden sparks falling behind him as he walks to the ring with a confident look on his face and the League Championship belt draped over his right shoulder. Instead of taking the steps closest to him, he walks around to the opposite side of the ring, drawing in more jeers as he finally climbs the steps and enters the ring.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds, he is the reigning League Champion...Johnny Triumph!

Bob Sinclair: Triumph was knocked out of the playoff hunt last week by Diamond, and is looking to end his defense with at least an even record.

Frankie Garnett: Which will happen.

Bob Sinclair: Indeed; that's all Triumph can do; his title defense comes to an end tonight.

Tori Montgomery: You have to admit, his opponents this season gave him more than he expected.

Bob Sinclair: Indeed, Tori. Coming up is the part of the night that everyone's been waiting for. Tori, would you mind filling everyone in?

Tori Montgomery: Do you one better, Bob. Have a visual aid!

Tori Montgomery: I have my computer at the ready; we'll update the graphic as the night progresses. Let's get to it!

GAMMA DIVISION: Ian Carlisle (6-7, 15%) vs. Sean (8-5, 10%)

The younger members of the audience quickly perk up and start to cheer in recognition of the song as one of this season's rookies comes sprinting out from the backstage area and slides into the ring, not letting his face betray any emotions as he moves into his corner, pacing slightly.

Amelia Williams: This is a Gamma Division bout scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from Blackpool, England, weighing 222 pounds...Ian Carlisle!

Bob Sinclair: Carlisle is out of the playoff hunt, but he can still play spoiler if he can get past Sean tonight.

Tori Montgomery: And with him slated to return next season, Carlisle is sure to be looking to improve on this season.

Frankie Garnett: I'm still baffled at this theme song, though.

Black Sabbath's classic "Iron Man" hits the arena speakers, as strobe lights begin to flash in the entryway. Fog rolls in from the entrance proper as a figure emerges, walking slowly to the ring and mentally preparing for what's ahead of him. He slides in under the bottom rope and walks over to one of the nearby turnbuckles, leaning up against them as the song fades.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Charlotte, North Carolina, weighing 230 pounds...Sean!

Tori Montgomery: Sean needs a win and for Maynard to win to give him the divisional title.

Bob Sinclair: Didn't you say he had close to an 80% chance to make it anyway?

Tori Montgomery: I did.

Frankie Garnett: You must have too much time on your hands.

Bob Sinclair: So now he needs Maynard to win to win the division, yes?

Frankie Garnett: Lemme guess. Another graphic, Tori?

Tori Montgomery: Of course!

Bob Sinclair: We're about to settle the Gamma Division right here, and see who gets the opportunity to stay in the hunt for the #2 seed.

GAMMA DIVISION: Robbie Maynard (8-5, 27%) vs. Maxx Skabb (8-5, 14%)

The opening riffs of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" hits the speakers, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as one of the League's initial playoff wrestlers emerges from the stage, bathed in a blue light shining beneath him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: This is a Gamma Division match, scheduled for one fall and will decide the Gamma Division championship! Introducing first, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds...Robbie Maynard!

Bob Sinclair: Maynard hasn't given word yet on whether he is returning or not; I would imagine if he makes the playoffs he would likely return.

Frankie Garnett: He'd be a fool to walk away with the success he's had in The League.

Tori Montgomery: Maynard has had success, true, but he has to want to come back. No one can decide that for him.

Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" blares throughout the arena as spotlights begin to pan over the audience, as if looking for someone. A dim red light shines on the entryway, revealing a hulking figure making his way to ringside. As the refrain hits, the spotlights immediately focus on him as white strobe lights flash on the entrance stage. Tori Montgomery: That depends on who wins the next match, Bob. Here is your update:

BETA DIVISION: Diamond (7-6, 19%) vs. Ezekial Kerghan (7-6, 24%)

"Don't Cha" hits the arena to a mixed reaction as The League's lone female member emerges from backstage. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, hands thrown in the air as the soaks in the crowd reaction while her manager stands outside, also applauding her client.

Amelia Williams: This is a Beta Division match, scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, accompanied to the ring by Jayde, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds...Diamond!

Tori Montgomery: This is real simple. Win, and you still have a chance. Lose, and you're done. No pressure!

Frankie Garnett: Sarcasm does not become you, Tori.

Bob Sinclair: Diamond comes in with the lowest odds of making the playoffs, but she seems determined to defy the odds tonight.

Escape the Fate's "This War is Ours" hits the arena speakers as The League's newest resident psychopath emerges and heads towards the ring, looking like he's having an argument with voices only he can hear.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, from The Dog Pound, weighing 251 pounds...Ezekial Kerghan!

Tori Montgomery: Kerghan can only make it as the #6 seed; a little bit of research and speculation gives us this: if Kerghan loses, Maxx Skabb clinches the #6 seed.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of ten minutes even...Diamond!

Tori Montgomery: If you gentlemen will excuse me a moment.... (drops her headset)

Frankie Garnett: What's her issue?

Bob Sinclair: She's on the phone with the Ratings Committee in Chicago, Frankie. With the Beta Division possibly decided by match rating, the committee is watching live along with us and rating the matches as they happen, instead of posting them on the League's website after the show. This way if it comes down to it, we'll have an answer to who wins the division by the end of the night.

Frankie Garnett: So it's not some farcical computer equation?

Bob Sinclair: Nope.

Frankie Garnett: Color me shocked.

Tori Montgomery: Sorry about that, gentlemen. The ruling is in—a C-minus rated match.

Frankie Garnett: And that means...?

Tori Montgomery: I'll explain in detail before the main event, Frankie, as it's not relevant yet. But if you'll look at your monitor, you'll see how things lie after this last match...

Frankie Garnett: So Skabb is locked in now?

Tori Montgomery: Yes. He has the better average match rating than Diamond, which gives Maxx the guaranteed spot. Skabb is in at #6, and Diamond will need help to make it.

Bob Sinclair: How much help?

Tori Montgomery: About 86% worth.

ALPHA DIVISION: Tarik Nolan (6-7, 26%) vs. Thor Hammerskald (9-4, 23%)

"Regulate" hits the speakers, immediately drawing the ire of the crowd as a large figure stands in the entryway, backlit by a clear spotlight. Pyro explodes on the stage, causing the light to shut off as the figure finally emerges onto the stage proper. Laughing at the boos hurled in his direction, he takes his time walking to the ring and subsequently entering it for his next match.

Amelia Williams: This bout is scheduled for one fall in the Alpha Division and will determine the #2 seed! Introducing first, from Shreveport, Louisiana, weighing 292 pounds...Tarik Nolan!

Bob Sinclair: Nolan has struggled this year after being one of the big three in the Gamma Division last year.

Frankie Garnett: I find it ironic that for a second straight season, both wild cards are coming out of the Gamma Division.

Tori Montgomery: That is an interesting tidbit, for sure.

Amon Amarth's "Death in Fire" hits the speakers, to a decent ovation as the League rookie emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds, he is the Alpha Division Champion...Thor Hammerskald!

Tori Montgomery: With that win, Sean is relegated to the #3 seed, and the field is set except for the Beta Division champion, who will come in as the #4 seed.

Bob Sinclair: With the main event coming up next, Tori, how about giving us a reminder of how things look?

Tori Montgomery: Certainly. This is up-to-the-minute, folks....

Frankie Garnett: OK, OK, so what does that mean in English, Tori? I don't speak "math."

Tori Montgomery: I had a feeling you were going to say that....

Tori Montgomery: Any questions?

Frankie Garnett: ...no, actually. I'm ready to watch the fat boy lose!

Bob Sinclair: With that, let's head to the ring and our main event of the evening!

BETA DIVISION: Scott Stevens (7-6, 13%) vs. The Phoenix (7-6, 28%)

The lights in the arena go pitch black, as red lasers and spotlights light up the area. The video screen lights up and flashes across the screen, "Nothing survives my sting!" Over the audio system a snippet of Dave Mustaine from the song "Scorpion" yells, "I am the Scorpion whoah!!!" This causes the crowd to start booing as a mash up of "I Stand Alone" by Godsmack and "Amazing" by Kanye West hits the speakers. Out from the back emerges "The Venomous One" wearing a replica of The League's World Championship around his waist and the man in question walks to the ring, talking trash the whole way while showing off his title belt.

Amelia Williams: This is a Beta Division match, scheduled for one fall and will determine the Beta Division champion! Introducing first, from Houston, Texas, weighing 265 pounds...He is "The League's Real World's Heavyweight Champion"... "The Scorpion" Scott Stevens!

Tori Montgomery: If Stevens wins, he's likely got the division. Only three possibilities keep Stevens out of the Beta Division title.

Frankie Garnett: He's your new divisional champ, Tori. Bank on it!

Bob Sinclair: We'll find out; Stevens has a test ahead of him tonight!

The opening chords of "The Instinct" hit as the entryway is bathed in a fiery orange light. Twin pillars of flame erupt from the entrance stage, one per side, as The League's largest member walks to the ring, a smaller figure walking beside him on his left. As he approaches the steps, he pauses, bowing his head for a few seconds before taking a deep breath and releasing a shout to the skies above. His wife reaches up and gives him a quick peck on the cheek for luck as he ducks between the ropes and finishes his stretching..

Amelia Williams: His opponent , being accompanied to the ring by Te'Snilo Bradenbury, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds, he is the Beta Division leader...this is The Phoenix!

Tori Montgomery: It's simple. A win and he's in.

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner, at a time of nine minutes and ten seconds...Scott Stevens!

Frankie Garnett: Ha! Fat boy choked again!

Bob Sinclair: But was it enough? Stevens finished his opponent quicker, it's true, but did that affect the Rating Committee's view?

Frankie Garnett: It better not have! Stevens beat the division leader; that should be enough!

Bob Sinclair: It appears that Tori is off the phone, and Amelia Williams is now speaking with the Rating Committee, wanting to be sure that she hears the message correctly. Remember, Stevens needs this to be at least a C- or the win will have been for naught.

Frankie Garnett: If he doesn't get this, I swear that there is a damn conspiracy here.

Bob Sinclair: Amelia has put down the phone and has the microphone in hand, let's find out who the Beta Division champion is!

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, the Rating Committee has rendered their decision. They rate this match between Scott Stevens and The Phoenix....

....

....

...

...a D ranking! Therefore, your Beta Division champion, by way of average match rating tie-breaker...DIAMOND!

Bob Sinclair: And this crowd has gone absolutely bananas!

Frankie Garnett: Bananas my [censored] ass! Stevens was just robbed! The League has [censored] him over again!

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, watch your language!

Frankie Garnett: No! I'm telling it like it is! Scorpion was just robbed of his rightful place in the playoffs!

While Frankie rants at ringside, Stevens turns to where Phoenix is starting to leverage himself onto his feet, and lets out a primal scream. A moment later, he charges in, clipping the knee of Phoenix to send the big man down to the mat. Stevens assumes a mount position, raining down right hands on the unprotected skull of Phoenix, drawing blood quickly and very violently. The referee tries to interfere, only to get punched in the crotch from an enraged Stevens, who resumes beating on the head of Phoenix. A chorus of boos rains in from the crowd, and as trash starts to fly into the ring, Stevens ceases his assault...but only momentarily. In the next breath, he has Phoenix trapped in a rear naked choke, squeezing the oxygen out of the big man. The camera sees Phoenix's face turn red, then a shade of violet as Stevens puts as much pressure on the hold as he can. The camera also catches Stevens shouting that "you cost me my destiny, you [censored]!" Referees pour in from backstage, and finally force the break after nearly a full minute of having that hold applied. Phoenix lays unmoving on the mat as "The Scorpion" spits on his fallen adversary and stalks up the ramp, not even heeding the jeers of this Scottish crowd. The show ends with EMTs and medical personnel trying to bring Phoenix back to consciousness, worried about his formerly-injured neck....
