THE LEAGUE: SEASON THREE PLAYOFFS

The unorthodox layout of The League's patented "Virtual Arena" greets the viewers and the five thousand people lucky enough to score tickets to the live event. Around the arena, thirty-three different satellite feeds are shown, one from each area of the world (with each of those venues sold out as well). The camera pans this strange setting before cutting to ringside and the usual suspects.

Bob Sinclair: Welcome, everyone, to the Season Three Playoffs! Bob Sinclair, sitting at ringside as always with Frankie Garnett and Tori Montgomery, and tonight's the night we've built to for the last three and a half months!

Tori Montgomery: We started with sixteen, we're down to six, and by the end of the night we'll be down to one. Vegas has the favorites being Maxx Skabb and Thor Hammerskald, with Sean and Maynard the long shots in the tournament. But as Frankie will be quick to point out—

Frankie Garnett: Just check the Belmont Stakes, I made a killing with a 24-1 shot!

Tori Montgomery: —as I was saying...anything can happen tonight, folks.

Bob Sinclair: It should be noted that in light of the recent threats from Scott Stevens, security has been beefed up a little in order to insure that the playoffs go without interruption. As we begin the night, here's how the brackets look at the moment....

Tori Montgomery: Conspicuous by their absence are the names of the top two seeds, Thor Hammerskald and Nuclear Templeton. Depending on the results of the first match, those two will be added to the bracket in the appropriate place.

Frankie Garnett: Are you two trying to bore the audience to death? They came to see wrestling, not cutesy pictures!

Tori Montgomery: What is your problem, Frankie?

Frankie Garnett: I'm just waiting for Stevens to rip your tongue out like he promised, that's all.

Bob Sinclair: While these two get pulled away from each other, let's go to Amelia Williams in the ring to get this night started!

FIRST QUARTERFINAL: #3 Sean (Gamma Division Champion, 33%) vs. #6 Maxx Skabb (Wild Card, 42%)

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, our opening contest is scheduled for the best two out of three falls, and is a quarterfinal match!

Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" blares throughout the arena as spotlights begin to pan over the audience, as if looking for someone. A dim red light shines on the entryway, revealing a hulking figure making his way to ringside. As the refrain hits, the spotlights immediately focus on him as white strobe lights flash on the entrance stage. He slides under the bottom rope, his orange jumpsuit a stark contrast to most of the clothing in the audience as the song fades into silence.

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds...Maxx Skabb!

Bob Sinclair: Skabb comes in tonight as someone who only made it in by the skin of his teeth.

Frankie Garnett: At least he got in honestly, unlike certain people.

Tori Montgomery: Frankie, if you're going to be like this all night, I'm going to have the guys in the back mute you so you don't drive our audience away.

Frankie Garnett: Oh, so now you're going to hold me back, too?

Tori Montgomery: Oh, brother.

Black Sabbath's classic "Iron Man" hits the arena speakers, as strobe lights begin to flash in the entryway. Fog rolls in from the entrance proper as a figure emerges, walking slowly to the ring and mentally preparing for what's ahead of him. He slides in under the bottom rope and walks over to one of the nearby turnbuckles, leaning up against them as the song fades.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Charlotte, North Carolina, weighing 230 pounds, he is the Gamma Division Champion...Sean!

Bob Sinclair: This marks Sean's third appearance in the postseason; he's finished third and second respectively in his last two appearances.

Frankie Garnett: Never mind the fact that he's as exciting as drying paint.

Tori Montgomery: Sean believes in the route of making his moves count, Frankie. It's worked for him so far, hasn't it?

Tori Montgomery: Sean is now locked in to face the #2 seed, Thor Hammerskald, in the next round. The top seed awaits the winner of the next match.

Frankie Garnett: I don't like their chances, then. Templeton's been on a tear.

SECOND QUARTERFINAL: #4 Diamond (Beta Division Champion, 26%) vs. #5 Robbie Maynard (Wild Card, 29%)

Amelia Williams: This is our second quarterfinal match of the night, scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

The opening riffs of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" hits the speakers, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as one of the League's initial playoff wrestlers emerges from the stage, bathed in a blue light shining beneath him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes, ready to make his second attempt to win the League Championship.

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds...Robbie Maynard!

Bob Sinclair: Maynard was one of the initial four playoff wrestlers in The League, and is the only one besides Sean who is still with The League. He finished fourth that season; he's looking to at least match that feat this season.

Frankie Garnett: He'll manage that, I think. I have it on good authority.

Tori Montgomery: That being?

Frankie Garnett: Not going to divulge my sources, Tori. Wait and see.

"Don't Cha" hits the arena to a mixed reaction as The League's lone female member emerges from backstage. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, hands thrown in the air as the soaks in the crowd reaction while her manager stands outside, also applauding her client.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, accompanied to the ring by Jayde, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds, she is the Beta Division Champion...Diamond!

Bob Sinclair: This is Diamond's first appearance in the post-season, and many are rooting for her as the sentimental favorite.

Frankie Garnett: Sentimental favorite my left buttock. We all know she bribed her way into the playoffs, plain and simple!

Tori Montgomery: Watch your words, Frankie, you may have to eat them later.

Frankie Garnett: Fine, Tori. I've got $500 on Maynard. Care to put your money where—

Frankie Garnett: Damn it all to hell!

Tori Montgomery: That'll be $500, Frankie.

Frankie Garnett: (Mutters things best left censored)

Bob Sinclair: Diamond now draws the tough task of taking on the top seed, whom she has yet to defeat in League competition in three tries.

Frankie Garnett: Double or nothing on that match, Tori!

Tori Montgomery: Sorry, Frankie, I'm taking that $500 and booking a week-long vacation after the post-season. My travel agent and I thank you.

Frankie Garnett: Grrrr.....

FIRST SEMIFINAL: #2 Thor Hammerskald (Alpha Division Champion, 30%) vs. #3 Sean (Gamma Division Champion, 33%)

Amelia Williams: This is our first semifinal match of the evening, scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from Charlotte, North Carolina, weighing 230 pounds, he is the Gamma Division Champion...Sean!

Bob Sinclair: After getting busted open in his last match, will Sean have gotten enough time to recover and not leave himself vulnerable?

Frankie Garnett: I wouldn't count on it. His opponent knows how to focus on an injury like that.

Tori Montgomery: Frankie's right for a change. Sean's got his work cut out for him.

Amon Amarth's "Death in Fire" hits the speakers, to a decent ovation as the League rookie emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds, he is the Alpha Division Champion...Thor Hammerskald!

Bob Sinclair: Hammerskald clinched the #2 seed in the last week of the season; will the bye have helped him prepare?

Frankie Garnett: If he loses here, I'd think there won't be a locker room left after he gets done tearing it apart.

Tori Montgomery: Quick fact: both men who had a bye last post-season did not make it out of the semifinals. Historically speaking, the odds are against Hammerskald here.

Tori Montgomery: The curse of the bye continues; top seeds are now 0-3 coming off a bye in League history!

Frankie Garnett: Nuclear'll put a stop to that. No way Diamond gets past him.

Bob Sinclair: We're about to find out, as Sean heads to the back to await...wait a minute, I'm being told we have a situation backstage!

Frankie Garnett: Oh, this should be good.

Backstage...

The camera shifts to the backstage area, where we see Diamond trying to force her way through a wall of EMT's. Panning down, the camera catches a shot of Jayde out cold on the floor, a pool of blood around her head from an apparent laceration. Shards of broken glass are scattered on the ground.

Tori Montgomery: What in the...?

Frankie Garnett: Looks like Diamond's getting no help here!

Diamond: Look, let me in to see—

Colt Marshall: We can't do that, Diamond.

From the left side of the shot, Commissioner Colt Marshall comes in, a pair of burly security guys in tow.

Colt Marshall: Your match is up next. Failure to head out will result in a forfeit.

Diamond: You can't do this to me! I paid for my manager to be at ringside!

Colt Marshall: I'm sorry, but the rules are the rules.

Without warning, Diamond rears back and lays a slap across the face of the Commish, leaving a visible handprint on his face.

Diamond: You haven't heard the last of this, Marshall!

With that, she storms away towards the ringside area, as Marshall turns to view the carnage.

Colt Marshall: He's here. I want every entrance locked and manned. He's not getting out of here unless we see him first.

Both men nod and scurry away, as Marshall sighs deeply.

Bob Sinclair: "He's here?"

Tori Montgomery: I have a sinking feeling that I know who the Commissioner is speaking about.

Bob Sinclair: ...Stevens?

Frankie Garnett: Serves her right! Wrong place, wrong time! Would only be better if it was that Bradenbury chick!

Tori Montgomery: Will you stop?!

SECOND SEMIFINAL: #1 Nuclear Templeton (Delta Division Champion, 24%) vs. #4 Diamond (Beta Division Champion, 26%)

Amelia Williams: This is our second semifinal bout, scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

"Don't Cha" hits the arena to a mixed reaction as The League's lone female member emerges from backstage. The usual confident smirk is replaced by a look of pure hatred and rage as she sprints into the ring and turns to face the entrance.

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from—

The microphone is snatched out of Amelia's hands as Diamond raises it to her mouth.

Diamond: They know who I am. Get Templeton out here, NOW!

Bob Sinclair: To say that Diamond is angry is an understatement.

Tori Montgomery: She looks ready to kill someone. I have a feeling this is going to turn brutal real quick.

Frankie Garnett: Bring on the carnage!

Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" hits the speakers, bringing the crowd to their feet in ovation as one of the League's more recognizable faces emerges from backstage and across the green-tinted stage. As he hits the end of the entrance ramp, he throws his arms into the air, sending a pair of mushroom clouds into the air from the stage as he makes his way to the ring and through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds, he is the Delta Division champion...Nuclear Templeton!

Tori Montgomery: One of two streaks is going to continue here. Either Templeton goes to 4-0 against Diamond, or people coming off a bye will be 0-4.

Frankie Garnett: No way is Diamond going to win. She's got no one watching her back.

Tori Montgomery: I doubt that will work tonight, Bob. Diamond's in a frenzy unlike anything I've seen from her in the past. Nuclear's going to need to really pull out the stops if this is his plan.

Bob Sinclair: Nuclear's adrenaline rush is gone as quickly as it came, and now the crowd comes alive as they try to will Diamond on to what would have to be considered an upset!

The referee begins counting the competitors out.

Bob Sinclair: Diamond right back in trouble as Nuclear goes to leave the ring...wait, what's that at the top of the entrance ramp?

Tori Montgomery: Son of a [censored], I knew it!

Frankie Garnett: Bwahaha! It's open season on Diamond!

Frankie's comment is soon explained as the camera cuts to the top of the entrance ramp, where "The Scorpion" Scott Stevens is slowly walking towards the ring, his right hand and his face with traces of blood on them. Diamond turns to see this, and one can see the anger literally manifest itself on her face as she takes a couple of steps towards Stevens. Nuclear grabs Diamond, looking to take advantage of the distraction.

Tori Montgomery: Oh, come on! Where is security at?!

Frankie Garnett: Probably at the same place Jayde is, Tori!

Stevens continues to move towards the ringside area, as the crowd lets out a tremendous cheer. Stevens turns to see what is going on and sees Ian Carlisle standing at the top of the ramp, a steel pipe in hand. Stevens' face seems to turn feral as he approaches Carlisle, his eyes never leaving the form of the League rookie. Between this looming confrontation and the stalemate at ringside between Diamond and Templeton, the figure leaping the security barrier is almost overlooked.

Bob Sinclair: Now what?

Frankie Garnett: Don't tell me that Diamond bribed someone else to help her!

In a moment, the figure turns and sprints up the ramp, a clothesline to the back of Stevens' head dropping him onto the metal ramp. The figure in black assumes a rear mounted position and begins to hammer away with punches on the back of the head of Stevens, driving his face into the metal. Carlisle turns around and has to scramble out of the way, seeing Ezekial Kerghan charging at him with a barbed-wire 2x4 in hand. Kerghan looks to make his way towards the figure in black, but Carlisle stops him with a pipe shot to the small of the back. Kerghan stops for a moment, then turns around to face Carlisle, a wicked grin crossing the lunatic's face. Carlisle drops the pipe and bolts behind the curtain, Kerghan in hot pursuit. Back on the ramp, security has finally emerged to pull the man in black off of Stevens.

Frankie Garnett: It's about damn time they got here! The franchise of The League could be hurt!

Tori Montgomery: If he is, he deserves every bit of it!

Bob Sinclair: Meanwhile, there's still a match going on...

Diamond blocked the Rain of Pain.

The referee begins the count...
1!
2!
This Could Be It!
The referee's hand starts coming down...
Kick Out At The Last Second!

Tori Montgomery: Come on, Diamond! You've taken five of the best shots Templeton has, and you're still standing. You can beat him!

Frankie Garnett: You're trying to get her killed, aren't you?

As Nuclear argues with the ref, at the top of the ramp the figure in black manages to get out of the grasp of security and charges full-tilt at Stevens, who has been loaded onto a stretcher and whose face is covered in the crimson mask. The EMT's scatter out of the way as the figure grabs the lower end of the stretcher and dashes up the ramp, his eyes looking at the end of the stage. The crowd cheers, knowing what may be about to happen. As the figure in black lines up the stretcher, he pulls off the hood, revealing...

Frankie Garnett: He's supposed to be in the [censored] hospital!

Bob Sinclair: Apparently not, Frankie. He's here and he's making this match fair!

Frankie Garnett: How is beating a man within an inch of his life fair?

Tori Montgomery: It's karma, plain and simple! Phoenix is taking matters into his own hands!

As security closes in, Phoenix charges forward, stretcher still in hand. Stevens looks up at the face of his attacker, and the recognition lasts but a moment before Phoenix sends the stretcher off the stage! Stevens lands shoulders and back first, with the weight of the stretcher falling on top of him before rolling to the side. Security finally grabs Phoenix, who spits on the fallen form of Stevens before turning away, leaving the ringside area ahead of the security goons. EMT's rush back over to check on Stevens.

While all of this was going on, the match was still going:

This Could Be It!
The referee's hand starts coming down...
3!

Amelia Williams: Here is your winner at a time of sixteen minutes and fifty seconds, and advancing to the finals...Nuclear Templeton!

Bob Sinclair: Templeton wins a wild one, though it took six finishers to put Diamond away!

Tori Montgomery: The more pressing issue is that Scott Stevens essentially cost Diamond her shot at the League Championship by taking out her manager before the match began!

Frankie Garnett: Jayde knew the risks, Tori! The true pressing issue is that Phoenix may have ended Scott Stevens' career with that heinous assault!

Tori Montgomery: Stevens had it coming! He tried to suffocate Phoenix last week! Phoenix was just getting a little payback, and I say good on him for it!

FIFTH-PLACE CONSOLATION: #5 Robbie Maynard (Wild Card, 29%) vs. #6 Maxx Skabb (Wild Card, 42%)

Amelia Williams: This is our fifth-place consolation match, scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

Frankie Garnett: The question on the minds of League fans now has to be whether Skabb will return next season, as he looks poised to straight up shank someone.

Tori Montgomery: Now that he's had a taste of playoff action, I think he'll be back, if only to do better next season.

Bob Sinclair: That's provided he gets through tonight.

The opening riffs of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" hits the speakers, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as one of the League's initial playoff wrestlers emerges from the stage, bathed in a blue light shining beneath him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds...Robbie Maynard!

Bob Sinclair: Maynard will end up finishing worse than he did during his initial playoff run; the question that remains is whether or not he can actually score a win in the postseason.

Tori Montgomery: Given that he is dwarfed in popularity, he's got an uphill climb ahead of him.

Frankie Garnett: No kidding, there.

THIRD-PLACE CONSOLATION MATCH: #2 Thor Hammerskald (Alpha Division Champion, 30%) vs. #4 Diamond (Beta Division Champion, 26%)

Amelia Williams: This is our third-place consolation bout, scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

"Don't Cha" hits the arena to a mixed reaction as The League's lone female member emerges from backstage. There is a confident smirk on her face as she talks trash with some of the louder fans before sprinting into the ring by diving under the bottom rope. As she stands, she proceeds to the corner nearest the announce table, her back slumped against the turnbuckles as she waits for her opponent to emerge.

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from Aberdeen, Scotland, weighing 137 pounds, she is the Beta Division Champion...Diamond!

Bob Sinclair: It has not been a good night for Diamond.

Tori Montgomery: You're not kidding; she's had her manager assaulted backstage and that may have indirectly cost her a berth in the finals, and the blame lies at the feet of Scott Stevens.

Frankie Garnett: Who himself was the victim of a cowardly assault!

Tori Montgomery: And I still say he deserved every minute of it.

Amelia Williams: Her opponent, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds, he is the Alpha Division Champion...Thor Hammerskald!

Bob Sinclair: Thor's first playoffs have not been as fruitful as he may have wished.

Frankie Garnett: Again, Bob Sinclair with the understatement. Thor came in looking to win the whole thing; a loss here would be nothing short of total failure for him.

Tori Montgomery: A bit drastic, aren't we?

Frankie Garnett: Not at all, Tori. Not at all.

Bob Sinclair: It's not a total loss for Diamond, who manages to take third place without the services of her manager.

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP: #1 Nuclear Templeton (Delta Division Champion, 24%) vs. #3 Sean (Gamma Division Champion, 33%)

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, this is our main event of the evening, scheduled for the best two out of three falls to determine the Season Three League Champion!

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from Charlotte, North Carolina, weighing 230 pounds, he is the Gamma Division Champion...Sean!

Bob Sinclair: Sean's been here before—he was the runner-up to Johnny Triumph last season. Is this the season he finally makes it to the summit?

Frankie Garnett: Summit? What is this, mountain climbing?

Tori Montgomery: I'm not going to take the obvious bait here.

Frankie Garnett: Awww....

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds, he is the Delta Division Champion...Nuclear Templeton!

Bob Sinclair: Templeton is already guaranteed an improvement from last season's finish.

Tori Montgomery: But you and I both know that he won't be happy unless he wins the whole thing.

Frankie Garnett: Whoever loses this match will likely have some heavy psychiatrist bills in their future.

The referee turns towards Nuclear, showing him the title up for grabs. He then turns and shows Sean the same thing. The ref then raises the belt high in the air, showing that the nameplate that up until last week had Johnny Triumph's name engraved on it is now blank, waiting to be claimed by one of these two men. Handing the belt off to the timekeeper, he steps in between the two men, makes sure they are ready, and calls for the bell to get this final match of the season underway!
