Season Four Playoffs
Beijing, China
October 25, 2011

Voice-Over: It is a summit that many have attempted to climb, and yet all but three have fallen short. A summit where physical prowess, mental toughness, and an indomitable will to win are the keys to reaching new heights.

Tonight, eight men make their final preparations, each of them shouldering a weight that none save their fellow competitors could know the weight of.

FADE IN to a slow-motion shot of Dante Lorenzo locking in Painaroni on Ezekial Kerghan.

Dante Lorenzo (voice-over): For all of those people who said that I was nothing more than a career midcarder, that I would never amount to anything inside these ropes...I do this to prove them wrong.

DISSOLVE FADE to a shot of Thor Hammerskald standing in his corner before a match, as Frankie Garnett leans in to give last-minute instructions.

Thor Hammerskald (voice-over): I've been here for a few seasons now, trying to find my place. I've been friendly; I've been vicious. But I've yet to be successful beyond the occasional senseless beating. I've won my share of accolades and awards, just not the one that matters. Tonight, I'm going to do just that, and woe be unto anyone standing in my way.

DISSOLVE FADE to a shot of Maxx Skabb, roaring to the air above as he stands triumphant over Pizza Mask III.

Maxx Skabb (Voice-Over): It is redemption, the proof that no matter what they claim I did, I am the better man.

DISSOLVE FADE to a pensive Robbie Maynard, who sits alone facing an empty ring, his gaze never wandering.

Robbie Maynard (Voice-Over): For everyone who claims this to be a fluke, that I should not be here...I do this for me, and me alone.

DISSOLVE FADE to an action shot of Nuclear Templeton lashing out with an Armageddon Lariat to subdue SGRaaize for a three-count.

Nuclear Templeton (Voice-Over): Everyone thinks that I can't win the big ones, that I cannot close the book on a season without being the loser. Tonight, I will leave as Champion.

DISSOLVE FADE to a shot of Phoenix, standing at the gorilla position, as his wife stands next to him with her arms folded.

The Phoenix (Voice-Over): Twelve years I've fought to get to this position. Twelve years, and untold suffering both in and out of the ring. Tonight, I fight for the fallen, and for those still at my side...and bring this tale full circle at long last.

DISSOLVE FADE to a shot of Johnny Triumph standing victorious in the ring, while trainers try to help Ian Carlisle out of the ring.

Johnny Triumph (Voice-Over): I've been there once before. I know what it takes to become champion, and tonight I prove to everyone that it was not simply a flash in the pan.

DISSOLVE FADE to a shot of Sean, standing in the entrance way with the League Championship held above him, as pyro explodes in the background.

Sean (Voice-Over): No one thinks it can be done. No one thinks that I can repeat as champion. (scoffs) Prepare to be shown just how wrong all of you really are.

DISSOLVE FADE to a black screen, then to a shot of the League Championship belt sitting against a black background.

Voice-Over: The next thirty-six hours will decide their fate. Which of these eight men will be able to look back and say that he was the one who overcame the adversity, the trials, and the greatest of tests to reach the top of the mountain and be declared champion?

Tonight, the journey begins.

WENDY'S PRESENTS...
THE LEAGUE: SEASON FOUR PLAYOFFS, NIGHT ONE

The surreal atmosphere of the League's patented Virtual Arena greets the cameras as thirty-three video feeds and a live attendance of 56,219 send up a cheer to shake the rafters of Beijing National Stadium, as pyro erupts from the roof and the entranceway to signal the culmination of The League's season-long campaign. All too soon, we head to ringside and our usual suspects.

Bob Sinclair: Good evening, everyone, and welcome to the "Bird's Nest," Beijing National Stadium for the first of two nights of League playoff action! I'm Bob Sinclair, sitting at ringside with Tori Montgomery. Frankie Garnett will not be joining us tonight, as he prepares his client for his matches later this evening. Well, Tori, this is the night we've been waiting for!

Tori Montgomery: Tonight, we pare the field down and determine who will be squaring off tomorrow night for the League Championship. We've got eight of our twelve schedule playoff matches on tap tonight, and with every match over the next two nights being a two out of three falls match, it promises to be an evening full of action, Bob!

Bob Sinclair: Indeed it does, Tori. With that, let's go to the ring and the voice of The League, Amelia Williams, to kick off the night's festivities.

QUARTERFINAL #1: #4 Dante Lorenzo vs. #5 Robbie Maynard

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, this is our opening match of the Season Four playoffs, scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

The opening riffs of Metallica's "Master of Puppets" hits the speakers, drawing a mixed reaction from the crowd as one of the League's initial playoff wrestlers emerges from the stage, bathed in a blue light shining beneath him. After pausing to mentally prepare himself, he walks to the ring, his eyes never leaving the squared circle as he climbs onto the apron and ducks between the ropes.

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds, the Yellow Division Champion...Robbie Maynard!

Bob Sinclair: Maynard comes in as the lone participant from the Yellow Division, having finished ahead of Tarik Nolan, Ben Stanton, and Rannulf to get into the playoffs as the number five seed.

Tori Montgomery: This will be the first career meeting between these two, and you can tell from the look on Robbie Maynard's face that he seems ready to take on the challenge.

Three Days Grace's "Riot" hits the speakers to a chorus of jeers as the first Italian-born member of The League emerges from the back, ignoring the crowd in the arena as he mentally prepares for his upcoming match. Reaching the ring, he climbs up the steps and enters between the ropes, his face never losing a look of confident indifference.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Florence, Italy, weighing 291 pounds, the Blue Division Champion...Dante Lorenzo!

Bob Sinclair: Lorenzo arrives as the #4 seed, holding off Ezekial Kerghan, Diamond, and Ian Carlisle en route to a divisional title. Tori, do you think that having to fight for the divisional title at the end of the regular season will affect him tonight?

Tori Montgomery: I think it more likely that rookie nerves will get to him. In my mock bracket, I have Maynard advancing, but that's why we have the matches, Bob!

Bob Sinclair: Robbie Maynard is the first to punch his ticket to the semifinals; he will meet the winner of the Sean/Maxx Skabb match later on. Lorenzo will face the loser of that same match in the lower brackets as well.

Tori Montgomery: We're not going to waste any more time here, Bob, given all the action we've promised. Let's had back to the ring and Amelia to get our next match under way!

QUARTERFINAL #2: #3 The Phoenix vs. #6 Nuclear Templeton

Billy Idol's "Shock to the System" hits the speakers, bringing the crowd to their feet in ovation as one of the League's more recognizable faces emerges from backstage and across the green-tinted stage. As he hits the end of the entrance ramp, he throws his arms into the air, sending a pair of mushroom clouds into the air from the stage as he makes his way to the ring and through the ropes.

Amelia Williams: This is our second quarterfinal match! Introducing first, from Atlantic City, New Jersey, weighing 278 pounds...Nuclear Templeton!

Bob Sinclair: Templeton comes in as a wild card, having lost the Green Division to Sean but staying ahead of Master Imoka and Jack Lightning to earn the top wild card spot.

Tori Montgomery: Many think that if Templeton and Sean had been in different divisions, Nuclear could have come in as a top-three seed. We'll see if those rumors have merit tonight.

Bon Jovi's "Blaze of Glory" hits the arena speakers as one of the original members of The League comes out, his wife in tow. He has a deadly serious look on his face as he shadowboxes on his way to the ring. As they reach ringside, she gives him a slight shove towards the squared circle. He dives in under the bottom rope, coming to his feet with a war cry towards the heavens as he shifts his focus to the ring.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, being accompanied to the ring by Te'Snilo Bradenbury, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds, he is the Red Division Champion...this is The Phoenix!

Bob Sinclair: For the second time in four seasons, Phoenix enters the playoffs as a divisional champion, holding off Maxx Skabb—who we'll see later on—Scott Stevens, and Pizza Mask III to make it here.

Tori Montgomery: A lot of people think that Phoenix has no killer instinct, that he cannot close the deal in high-pressure situations. However, the numbers favor Phoenix, as he is 2-1 against Templeton in League action.

Bob Sinclair: Speaking of Triumph, he's up next, as the quarterfinals continue!

QUARTERFINAL #3: #2 Johnny Triumph vs. #7 Thor Hammerskald

Amon Amarth's "Death in Fire" hits the speakers, to a decent ovation he emerges from backstage, looking every bit the part of a Viking warrior as he strides to the ring with a determined look on his face...and scattering some of the fans away from the entrance ramp as he turns to glare at them. Behind him, his manager/League color commentator can be see giving him encouragement as the Viking enters the confines of the squared circle.

Amelia Williams: This is our third quarterfinal match of the evening! Introducing first, being accompanied to the ring by Frankie Garnett, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds...Thor Hammerskald!

Bob Sinclair: I don't think I've ever seen Thor so focused, Tori. Frankie has his client zeroed in on his opponent tonight!

Tori Montgomery: It's not like it would be difficult, Bob—after all, these two fought two weeks ago to decide the Black Division!

A remixed version of "Ecstasy of Gold" hits the speakers, which is nearly drowned out in jeers as he emerges from the entryway. Instead of taking the steps closest to him, he walks around to the opposite side of the ring, drawing in more jeers as he finally climbs the steps and enters the ring.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds, he is a former League Champion and this season's Black Division Champion...Johnny Triumph!

Bob Sinclair: Triumph won the Black Division with a win over Thor in the final week of the regular season, also overcoming SGRaaize and Eidenhoek Gaiaspade throughout the season to be here tonight.

Bob Sinclair: Meanwhile, Thor has the unenviable task of facing Nuclear Templeton in the semifinals in just a short while. We only have one remaining quarterfinal match, with the #1 regular season seed and defending League Champion; let's head back to Amelia for the introductions!

QUARTERFINAL #4: #1 Sean vs. #8 Maxx Skabb

Avenged Sevenfold's "Nightmare" blares throughout the arena as spotlights begin to pan over the audience, as if looking for someone. A dim red light shines on the entryway, revealing a hulking figure making his way to ringside, with two more men hiding just at the fringes of the spotlight, their eyes never leaving the form of the big man. As the refrain hits, the spotlights immediately focus on him as white strobe lights flash on the entrance stage. He slides under the bottom rope, his orange jumpsuit a stark contrast to most of the clothing in the audience as the song fades into silence.

Amelia Williams: This is our final quarterfinal match of the evening! Introducing first, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds...Maxx Skabb!

Bob Sinclair: Skabb comes in by barely squeaking by Diamond to claim the final wild card spot; but this match might be in his favor!

Tori Montgomery: Skabb is 3-2 all-time against his opponent tonight, but the telling figure is the 0-1 record in playoff action. You can be sure that Skabb is looking for redemption!

Motley Crue's "Kickstart My Heart" hits the arena speakers as a spotlight shines down on the top of the ramp. Emerging from the back, the reigning League Champion emerges, sans his League Championship belt in the spotlight as he throws a hand into the air, causing pyro to erupt from behind him in a manner of paparazzi photographing him. Tori Montgomery: A bit? Bob, that might be the turning point of this entire tournament! We're guaranteed our fourth different League Champion, and it's coming from the lowest four seeds of the playoffs! I don't think very many people would have seen this coming!

Bob Sinclair: Folks, as we try to compose ourselves, we're going to move on to the lower half of the brackets, which will determine the fifth through eighth positions. These comprise the four men who lost earlier tonight, and as Tori as documented, they are the top four seeds of the tournament. It is only for pride that they wrestle now; let's go to Amelia to start setting the scene for tomorrow's championship show.

LOWER BRACKET SEMIFINALS #1: #2 Johnny Triumph vs. #3 The Phoenix

He dives in under the bottom rope, coming to his feet with a war cry towards the heavens as he shifts his focus to the ring.

UPPER BRACKET SEMIFINALS #2: #5 Robbie Maynard vs.

Amelia Williams: This is our second semifinal match of the evening! Introducing first, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds...Maxx Skabb!

Tori Montgomery: Skabb is already guaranteed better than his sixth-place finish last season. He's just two falls away from making this improbable run to the finals a reality!

Bob Sinclair: He's definitely got a tough road to get there, for certain.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Liverpool, England, weighing 251 pounds...Robbie Maynard!

Tori Montgomery: Including playoffs, Maynard leads the career series by a 4-1 margin. Skabb is going to need to get lucky or just pound relentlessly on Maynard from the opening bell.

Tori Montgomery: You'll have a day to think about it, Bob. Folks, we're running short on time tonight; we'll see you tomorrow night for the final day of League action this season, culminating in the League Championship match!

WENDY'S PRESENTS...
THE LEAGUE: SEASON FOUR PLAYOFFS, NIGHT TWO

Once again, Beijing National Stadium hosts The League as more than 73,000 fans and all of the requisite video feeds greet the cameras for the final show of the season. The tension is thick in the air tonight, as we cut to ringside after the requisite pyro show.

Bob Sinclair: Tonight, we find out who will walk away from this season as the League Champion! Good evening, everyone! Bob Sinclair, at ringside with Tori Montgomery, and Tori, we're down to two.

Tori Montgomery: A pair of League Originals remain to fight it out for the League Championship, but before we get to that we still have three other matches to determine the finishing order of our top eight men this season. This promises to be a wild night, Bob, and I cannot wait to get started!

SEVENTH-PLACE CONSOLATION: #4 Dante Lorenzo vs. #2 Johnny Triumph

Bob Sinclair: We start tonight with a pair of men who had no luck at all last night, and find themselves fighting to simply get a win in the playoffs this season.

Tori Montgomery: This will be the first meeting between these two men, and after the runs they had this season I admit to find myself surprised that they find themselves here, in the first match of the night. Here's a look at each man's League career stats as they come in to the night....

Bob Sinclair: With no further ado, let's head to the ring and Amelia Williams to get us started.

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, our opening match of the night is scheduled for the best two out of three falls, and will determine the seventh-place finisher for the season!

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from Florence, Italy, weighing 291 pounds...Dante Lorenzo!

Bob Sinclair: Lorenzo has one more shot to redeem himself in these playoffs, and for the second time, he faces a former League Champion in the postseason.

Tori Montgomery: I'm not entirely sold on his chances, Bob—remember, I had Triumph going to the finals—but if there was ever a time to catch Triumph on a losing streak, this would be it.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from Des Moines, Iowa, weighing 228 pounds...Johnny Triumph!

Bob Sinclair: This is a far cry from the last time that Triumph was in the playoffs, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: In season two, he went undefeated in the postseason to claim the League Championship; now he's one match away from going 0-3 in his second appearance.

Tori Montgomery: I'm at a loss to explain it myself, Bob. It seemed like Triumph just couldn't put anyone away, and in the end it cost him.

Bob Sinclair: Regardless, Lorenzo manages to salvage something out of his postseason, finishing in seventh place for the season.

FIFTH-PLACE CONSOLATION: #1 Sean vs. #3 The Phoenix

Tori Montgomery: Our next match is one that most people would not have been surprised to see as the championship match this season. Two seasons ago, these two men finished atop the then-Gamma Division. Last season, Sean won the League Championship. This season, both were bounced in the first round.

Bob Sinclair: Not to mention that there seems to be some problems in Phoenix's corner, given how his wife was acting last night. Have you found out any more about that; I know professionally that you're close to Phoenix.

Tori Montgomery: He was strangely tight-lipped earlier today, Bob. I barely heard more from Sean today. About twenty minutes before we came on air, I overheard Sean muttering something about them not taking his spotlight that quickly. I'm not sure what he was thinking about, but this has all the makings of a squash match, Bob.

Bob Sinclair: As we get ready to go to the ring, here's how these two League Originals stack up:

He dives in under the bottom rope, coming to his feet with a war cry towards the heavens as he shifts his focus to the ring.

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, being accompanied to the ring by Te'Snilo Bradenbury, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds...this is The Phoenix!

Bob Sinclair: Yeah, there is definitely tension there, Tori.

With a smirk, the champ heads to the ring, the spotlight remaining on him the whole time.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, now residing in Los Angeles, California, weighing 230 pounds, making his final appearance as the reigning League Champion..."Hollywood" Sean!

Bob Sinclair: Sean holds the edge in this series at 3-2, which includes a playoff victory over Phoenix two seasons ago. He would seem to have the slight advantage, not to mention Phoenix's marital issues. But it's time for action now; here's the bell to get us underway!

Amelia Williams: The winner of the bout, at a time of twenty-seven minutes and ten seconds, and by a count of two falls to one...Sean!

Bob Sinclair: And in an epic battle of will, it's Sean who pulls out the victory over a very game Phoenix tonight!

Tori Montgomery: This one could have gone either way, Bob. The way Tess Bradenbury acted tonight, Sean may as well have been in a handicap match.

As Tori finishes her comment, the camera shifts to outside the ring, where Phoenix can be seen helping Tess to her feet. A moment later, Tess pushes herself away from Phoenix and plants a swift kick to the crotch, dropping Phoenix like a bad habit. As the big man falls to his knees, she pulls the rings off of her left hand and drops them in front of her husband. The camera can catch her screaming "It's over, Will!" before she storms to the back.

Bob Sinclair: Wait a minute...what just happened here?

Tori Montgomery: ...I'm gonna kill her.

Bob Sinclair: No you won't, Tori. You stay right there and be a professional. You can deal with her later.

Tori Montgomery: ...grrr....

THIRD-PLACE CONSOLATION: #8 Maxx Skabb vs. #7 Thor Hammerskald

Bob Sinclair: We inch closer and closer to our main event, and up next is our next-to-last match of the evening, featuring a pair of men that people wouldn't expect to be this deep in the card.

Tori Montgomery: (sighs) Bob, I will readily admit that I didn't see Skabb defeating Sean last night. Thor/Triumph was a bit more expected given that it was the third time they'd faced each other this season alone. But coming into tonight, both men have beaten the other once, and tonight will be for much higher stakes.

Bob Sinclair: It will also be interesting to see if Frankie Garnett has his client wired for tonight, given that this isn't for the championship.

Amelia Williams: This contest is the third-place match, and it is scheduled for the best two out of three falls!

Amelia Williams: Introducing first, from the Orange County Correctional Facility, weighing 289 pounds, one-half of the reigning Tag Team Turmoil Champions...Maxx Skabb!

Bob Sinclair: So, Tori, any truth to the reports that if Skabb wins, he's going on a shanking spree?

Tori Montgomery: And ruin what parole he has left? Not likely.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, being accompanied to the ring by Frankie Garnett, from Oslo, Norway, weighing 310 pounds...Thor Hammerskald!

Bob Sinclair: At the risk of sounding like Frankie here, it looks like the only thing Thor is missing tonight is a Valkyrie.

Tori Montgomery: Which one? Lenneth, Silmeria, or Hrist?

Bob Sinclair: ...what are you talking about?

Tori Montgomery: Valkyrie Profile.

Bob Sinclair: ...Not going to ask....

Bob Sinclair: A respectable finish for Thor this season, ending up third when all is said and done.

Tori Montgomery: Meanwhile, Skabb finishes fourth; both men having career-best finishes to a season here. I have to give credit to both men for their efforts tonight.

Outside the ring, Thor simply nods and waves a hand at Frankie, who nods back and walks around the ring towards the announce position.

Bob Sinclair: It looks like we're going to have a full booth for the finals, Tori.

Tori Montgomery: With his duties to Thor done for the season, I'm not surprised.

Frankie Garnett: Not happy with third, but it's just a steppingstone. Next season, we're winning it all!

Bob Sinclair: Feeling confident, Frankie?

Frankie Garnett: Given the paycheck I'm getting as manager for this finish, you're damn right I am!

Tori Montgomery: I should have guessed....

LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP:
#5 Robbie Maynard vs. #6 Nuclear Templeton

Bob Sinclair: Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for the match that we've been waiting for. A pair of League Originals, both in their third playoff appearance, and both looking to make that one final push to the top of the mountain.

Tori Montgomery: Both men have talent, and both have shown the resilience needed to get to this point. Now it's a matter of who wants it more.

Frankie Garnett: I'll say this, guys—my money's on Maynard. I think that, despite the fact that he trails Templeton 3-2 in the career series, he's got the edge.

Bob Sinclair: You're just betting against Nuclear because he knocked Thor out of the tournament, right?

Frankie Garnett: And if I am?

Tori Montgomery: Given these two, I have to lean towards Templeton because of one factor: experience. Nuclear got this far last season and came up short. I doubt he will allow himself to let that happen again.

Bob Sinclair: In any event, folks, here's how these two compare, as we get ready for the championship match....

Bob Sinclair: Templeton looks rather at ease tonight as he makes his way into the ring.

Frankie Garnett: It's that experience Tori mentioned earlier. He knows what's at stake.

Tori Montgomery: Don't let the looks fool you. Under that façade is a raging beast ready to unload.

Bob Sinclair: Win or lose, this will be Maynard's best League finish of his career.

Tori Montgomery: And naturally, winning the championship will be a major feather in his cap.

Frankie Garnett: Not to mention the sweet taste of justice I'll be having!

DING-DING-DING!

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen around the world, this is the moment you've been waiting for. This match is sanctioned by The League, under the local authority of the Beijing Sport and Athletics Commission, and when the bell rings the third man in the ring will be referee Nobuo Tanakami.

And now, ladies and gentlemen...IT'S TIME! This is scheduled for the best two out of three falls, and is for The League's Season Four Championship!

A general roar greets this statement, the audience drowning out Amelia for a few moments.

Amelia Williams: And now, the participants...introducing first, fighting out of the corner to my left and wearing the dark green tights with gold trim. He is a League Original, having reached this point once before just four short months ago and looking tonight to take that one final step on the path. He holds a career League record of thirty-seven wins and nineteen losses, and comes in tonight weighing 278 pounds. Fighting out of Atlantic City, New Jersey, ladies and gentlemen...NUCLEAR TEMPLETON!!

The loudest cheers come from the Quebec, Canada feed, as they start chanting "Tem-ple-ton!" The man in question simply stretches his neck and throws a few punches to keep loose.

DING-DING-DING!

Amelia Williams: His opponent, fighting out of the corner to my right and wearing the black tights. Another League Original, and one of only two men still in the League who were in the inaugural playoffs, he comes in tonight looking to do what no one thought him able to do. Holding a career League record of thirty-two wins and twenty-four losses, and weighing in tonight at an even 251 pounds, fighting out of Liverpool, England...ROBBIE MAYNARD!!

This time, it is the Scottish feed that erupts the loudest in cheers, starting a chant of "^$*% 'im up, Robbie, &%$* 'im up!" Maynard simply nods, takes one last deep sigh, and walks towards the center of the ring, where Templeton is waiting for him. The two men have no words to say, their facial expressions saying it all for them. In the next moment, the referee calls for the bell, and this championship match is under way!
